Dr. Melanie Hahn talks about her family’s accomplishments and the influences of Korean immigrants and their families which led her to create change in the cultural and educational landscape of the United States. Dr. Hahn established the first Korean bilingual language program which won the US Department of Education’s highest award in the field of bilingual education. The program which serves as the nation’s model of two-way immersion started with 3 children using a board placed over a toilet in a school within the San Francisco Unified School District.
